Food and Your Health
I certainly like the way Dr. Seaman writes about nutrition. In this article he concisely explains to us that certain dietary habits will promote cancer.
The skinny of it is that normal human cells that age should die and be replaced. Certain cells do not die, but rather transform into cancerous cells. There are certain chemicals that promote the change of normal cells to cancer cells, and also continue to feed the cancer. One of these chemicals is prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) , which is derived from arachidonic acid.
Also responsible is linoleic acid, which is converted to arachidonic acid in the body, which then promotes the production of PGE2. Linoleic acid comes from fast foods, processed foods, and foods prepared in linoleic-acid rich oils (corn, sunflower, safflower, cottonseed). Arachidonic acid comes from excessively fatty meats and farm-raised fish (tilapia and catfish), fed on a diet that is rich in linoleic acid.
We are also consuming an excessive amount of refined carbohydrates which have a high glycemic index. About 40% of our calories come from sugar and refined flour. Another 20% from refined omega-6 oils. Cancer cells can actually survive in sugar, so here is another way in which we feed the cancer.
Many of us have already began to limit the intake of foods that can promote the growth of cancer cells. For those of you that are unaware of the connection, hopefully this will help you start to learn more about this very important subject.
