Strength and stretching exercises are best for overall stamina and flexibility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The simplest, positive change you can make to effectively improve your heart health is to start walking. It&#8217;s enjoyable, free, easy, social and great exercise. A walking program is flexible and boasts high success rates because people can stick with it. It&#8217;s easy for walking to become a regular and satisfying part of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">American Heart Association Recommendations<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">For Overall Cardiovascular Health:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">At least\u00a030 minutes of moderate-intensity\u00a0aerobic activity at least\u00a05 days per week for a total of 15<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">OR<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">At least\u00a025 minutes of vigorous\u00a0aerobic activity at least\u00a03 days per week for a total of 75 minutes; or a combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">AND<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Moderate- to high-intensity muscle-strengthening activity\u00a0at least\u00a02 days per week\u00a0for additional health benefits.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">For Lowering Blood Pressure and Cholesterol<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">An average\u00a040 minutes of moderate- to vigorous-intensity\u00a0aerobic activity\u00a03 or 4 times per week\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>What if I can\u2019t make it to the time goal?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><em>Something<\/em>\u00a0is always better than nothing!<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">And everyone has to start somewhere. Even if you&#8217;ve been sedentary for years, today is the day you can begin to make healthy changes in your life. If you don&#8217;t think you&#8217;ll make it for 30 or 40 minutes, set a reachable goal for today. You can work up toward your overall goal by increasing your time as you get stronger.
